THERE IS NO FINISH LINE
(Delayed entry:21 March 09)

Dad underwent his heart bypass yesterday morning (27Feb09). Surgery was scheduled to take max 3.5hrs. Mum and I waited outside the op theatre. Doc called me in slightly after 12pm, that surgery went well and Dad will be wheeled into the icu shortly and we should be able to see him after 2pm. Mum & I continued to wait and wait.... still no nurses called us.

Finally Doc appeared at 4pm+, informed that Dad experienced irregular heartbeats, hence, they wheeled him back to the op theatre and did 2 more grafts on him, pumped more blood into his heart. They could not determined the causes behind the irregular heartbeats. Doc said the op might have caused some stress to his body, hence might have affected his blood flow, resulting in the low blood pressure and heatbeats. By the time mum and I saw Dad, it was almost 6.30pm. It was quite a sad sight to see dad lying on the bed, helpless and so many tubes sticking out of his body. A man with such strenght would need to undergo such 2 major surgeries in a day, it's quite unbelievable.

Dad recovered pretty fast. By Day 2 at ICU, Doc had removed most of the machines and tubes. Dad was finally given the all clear on Day 3 to be transferred to a normal ward. In a nutshell, dad's recovering was really fast. He could pretty speak like normal after resting for few days, and totally didn't look as if he had undergone a major heart op. Looks like his healthy lifestyle and diet did play a big part in his fast recovery. Talking quite loudly and full of strength compared to the past :>

Dad's resting very well at home now. Still resting and not going out often, need to rest his legs. Have gone for the necessary post-op check-ups, surgeon's very happy with his progress.

Very thankful dad walked out of the 2 ops safely. It all started from an accidential self-discovery to a big discovery of 90% blockage of main aetery and having to undergo an emergency op shortly after his bypass. Events after events, there was hardly any time to really feel the impact or even had a moment to wonder what really happened and to absorb everything in. From the self-discovery to the op took about 3 weeks. So glad he's well and alive and back to his healthy lifestyle soon.
